You are less than 2.5 hours away from the #1 gay destination in the world - Fire Island Pines! So, pack your swimsuits and sunblock, because here's how to get there for an unforgettable summer adventure!
Before you embark on your journey by car, train, or even plane, check the Sayville Ferry Service schedule. It's essential that your train arrival time aligns with the ferry departure time.

Take the Train
Coming from Hell's Kitchen? Hop on the LIRR from Penn Station to Sayville. If you’re in Brooklyn, go to Atlantic Terminal. If you’re in Queens or flying in from JFK airport, take the train to Sayville.
Note: For Amtrak travelers arriving at Penn Station, just walk over to the LIRR side and follow the next steps.
Make sure to download the MTA e-Tix app to purchase your tickets in advance. Don’t worry about switching trains in Babylon; the second train is usually right across the platform. Once you arrive at the Sayville train station, Colonial Transportation's shuttles wait in the parking lot to whisk you to the ferry terminal for just $6 one-way.
The best way to save on travel: From May 23, 2025, through June 23, 2025, and daily from June 27, 2025, through September 1, 2025, instead of using the app, go to the LIRR ticket machine. The LIRR ticket machine sells a package for under $45 that is up to 40% cheaper than buying each mode of transportation a la carte.
What’s Included in the Package?
The package includes the following:
Discounted LIRR train tickets to/from Sayville station.
Round trip Colonial Taxi vouchers (to go from Sayville station to the ferry).
Round trip Sayville Ferry vouchers.
Note: You can only buy the package deals at LIRR train stations using Gray, Green, or Blue Ticket Machines (not available at the Red, Daily Ticket Machines):
To Get Your Ticket:
Select “MTA Away Deals.”
Choose “Long Island Deals” and select the Cherry Grove package.
After a short journey, you’ve arrived at the ferry. Even if you missed a train connection, your vacation starts now! Enjoy a cocktail at the bar while you wait for the next boat. If you didn’t use the LIRR ticket machine and you're paying by credit card, ensure you get a roundtrip ticket at least 10 minutes before boarding. If you arrive just in time, have cash handy!

Have a Car?
If you're driving, head straight to the Sayville Ferry terminal and park in their convenient lot across the street. Beware of the lot pricing, though! If you're staying over the weekend, expect to pay a minimum of $50 to park. You can also use Lyft or Uber for a hassle-free ride, but weekend traffic may make the train a faster and cheaper option.
Flying into New York?
If you're jet-setting into NYC, follow these pointers:
JFK Airport: Take the AirTrain to Jamaica Station, then catch an LIRR train to Sayville.
LGA Airport: Use a cab or app ride to Jamaica Station for the LIRR to Sayville.
EWR Airport: Use the AirTrain to NJ Transit to Penn Station, then LIRR to Sayville.
MacArthur Islip Airport (ISP): Enjoy a scenic flight over Fire Island before landing just 15 minutes from Sayville. Grab a taxi or Lyft to the ferry terminal for a swift boarding.
Follow these travel tips, and you’ll be ready for your weekend in the Pines just in time for Low Tea. See you on the sandy shores and under the sunny skies of Fire Island!
