A Rich History

The story of Pines Party goes back to 1983 with the Morning Party. This event was a fundraiser for the Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC) during the early days of the AIDS crisis. Inspired by an earlier event called Beach ‘79, it became a lifeline, raising much-needed funds as the gay community faced an unprecedented health crisis.

By 1991, the Morning Party had evolved into a massive beach event with legendary performances. Gloria Gaynor once sang “I Will Survive.” Although GMHC stopped sponsoring the party in 1998, the spirit of the event continued. In 1999, a group of locals decided to create something new. They launched Pines Party, an all-night beach bash with a fresh theme each year.

The first party, “Arabian Nights,” was a hit, raising half a million dollars for charity. The community rallied together, showing their enduring spirit.
